April 1, 2013 Edward Stanley Gocek 87 died April 1 in Syracuse after a short illness. Born in Syracuse, Ed lived in Westvale most of his life. He attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from Vocational High School. He retired from General Motors after 32 years of employment which was interrupted by his service in the Army First Infantry where he served as an engineer around Europe during WWII. He also retired from the Onondaga County Sherriff’s Dept.-Special Deputy Division. He was a communicant of the Basilica of Sacred Heart. He was an honored member of the VFW, PLAV, Knights of Columbus, and the Holy Name Society of the Basilica of Scared Heart. He also loved boating, fishing and spending time with the family at their Lake Ontario cottage near Sackets Harbor. An avid New York Yankees fan, he attended his one and only game for his 80th birthday. Ed was predeceased by his parents Stanley and Aniela Gocek, his sister Helen Kapelewski, his daughter Michele “Mickey” Emery. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Frances (Domachowski) Gocek, his son Edward A. (Joanne) Gocek of Syracuse, NY, his daughter Mary (Kevin) Short of Naples FL, son-in-law James Emery and grandchildren John and Elizabeth Emery of Mexico, NY, sister Mary Baker, and several nieces and nephews.
