October 14, 2011 Edith Merrick Hatherill, 97, passed away peacefully Friday, October 14, 2011 at her home. Edith worked at the A&P Bakery in Syracuse for 10 years, before she owned and operated Hatherill’s Restaurant in Middlebury Center, PA for 22 years. She loved cooking for her family, gardening and quilting with the “Chatham Area Quilters”. She was a strong, hard-working, good woman, who took care of not only her family, but anyone in need. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Edith was predeceased by her husband, Lewis, in 1965; her daughters, Peggy Guadagno in 1993, and Beverly Rubado in 2008; and grandsons, Patrick Smyth and Donnie Rubado in 1957. She is survived by her son, Richard (Beverly); her daughter, Janet (Patrick) Smyth; son-in-law, Jerry (Linda) Guadagno; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren. A private family service will be held Monday at Hollis Funeral Home 1105 W. Genesee Street, Syracuse. Graveside Services: Beech Flats Cemetery in Canton, PA, Tuesday, 10/18 @ 1:00 PM.
