Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

John Henry Nozynski, 78, of Solvay, died in Syracuse, NY on January 14, 2023, after a long illness. Born in Syracuse, he was the son of John W. and Nellie (Zamojski) Nozynski, who predeceased him. After graduating from Solvay High School, John furthered his studies at Syracuse University, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Art followed by a Master’s in Fine Arts at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Additional graduate work was performed at Syracuse University. John was a creative and gifted artist who loved the world of museum administration. His work led him to the Milwaukee Art Museum, Milwaukee, WI; Director of the Walters Art Museum, Baltimore, MD; Director of the Cheekwood Botanical Garden and Museum of Art, Nashville, TN; and Director of the Tampa Museum of Art, Tampa, FL. Mr. Nozynski’s final, and perhaps most rewarding, assignment was as the Director of the 1890 House Museum in Cortland, NY. He was a congregant of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Syracuse, NY. John enjoyed gardening and was skilled at landscape design and floral arrangements. He had a knack for creating beauty using simple elements. John is survived by his siblings, Col. (USAF, Ret.) Raymond (Carole) Nozynski of Poquoson, VA; Dr. Paul (Nancy) Nozynski of Manlius, NY; and Sharon (David) Eischens of Naples, FL. Additionally, he is survived by his aunt, Dorothy Pliszczak and her daughter, Dr. Janice Pliszczak, Solvay, NY; a nephew, Brian (Mei) Nozynski; two nieces, Julie Nozynski, DVM, and Anna Nozynski; plus several cousins. The family would like to thank the staff at the Bishop Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Syracuse, for their compassionate care provided to John while a resident, especially Terri Levine, Nurse Practitioner, Michelle Berry, LPN, and Tony Callipari, Patient Liason.

Private services will be held at a later date.
