I never actually had the pleasure of taking a class with Mr. Bartholomew (though was fortunate to have been graced by Ms. Trotty and Mr. Bisson). However, other students sing Mr. B's praises and I just wanted to pay my respects to a great educator who obviously touched so many. My condolences to his family.
Sincerely,
Bill Murphy (you knew me as Dower back at Nottingham)

Mr. Bartholomew was among my most memorable high school teachers. Along with Mr. Bisson, he had the patience and the skill to help me not only understand algebra and trig but also to learn to really enjoy a subject I'd previously had a traumatic experience with. I remember, as if they were yesterday, all those wonderful evenings on the bus and on the ski slopes of Labrador with Mr. B as our fun-loving ski club chaperone. His passion for teaching and interest in us young "whippersnappers" was transformative for many, myself and I daresay many of my mates in the Nottingham class of 1981 included, in whose memories he will live on. My sincerest condolences to his family; we've all lost a treasured human being who made the most of his time among us.
Thank you, Mr. B! Kristina Hart

Mr. Bartholomew - you saw something in me that I did not recognize in myself: a passion for learning computers and you gave me my first chance to share what I'd learned with others. Being a teenager I just thought it was fun, but I didn't fully understand is that were teaching me how to teach. My prayers go out to your family and I pray that I bring out the teacher in those that I may encounter in my journey.

Marty excelled at teaching and coaching because he was a great guy, always taking the extra bit of time to make sure you understood a topic before he moved on to the next one. I'm so sorry for your loss, but know that he had a tremendously positive influence on me and always found a way to make learning fun. I'm lucky to have known him.

Gloria and I were greatly saddened by the news of Marty's passing. He was a great friend and companion for skiing, kayaking, racquetball, photography and computing. He taught me to ski and I have many fond memories of the numerous adventures at Lab, Song, Whiteface and Gore. He was a loyal friend, always willing to lend a hand. I shall miss him terribly and when I think of him I will remember that Marty helped people grow.

Mr. Bartholomew, Thank you for putting up with me during my obnoxious teenage years. You could have given up on me, but you didn't and helped me turn my grades around. I know you felt bad for me and came to my swimming meet. I love you Mr B. May the heavens open their gates and take you in, and my God grant comfort and strength to your family. I never forgot you, even after 32 years. You are the best.

I was stunned to see this in the paper. The first thing that came to mind was my last conversation with Marty after his retirement when he stopped by central office. He was talking about his family he loved so much and about Alaska . As a teacher Marty guided, shared, trained, taught and assisted me in many endeavors. As districtwide tech support person along with him, he again supported, guided, taught and served as a wonderful mentor. He was a kind, compassionate and a selfless man who was loyal to his friends and colleagues. A true gentleman with a heart of Gold. Marty, so many will miss you. God Bless you and welcome you with open arms to heaven. To his family, my sympathies, peace and blessings

I always looked to Marty as my computer mentor. He literally taught me everything I knew about Macs, digital cameras and software. I always felt very comfortable asking any question and for the many favors he helped me with. Marty helped me to be the teacher I was. I owe a lot to him. When I saw Marty a few months ago, in front of the salon waiting for his Emily, I could see the love on his face. He was a special man that was an extremely wonderful teacher, mentor, husband, and father. I will miss Marty so much.
