Robert J. Steves, “Bob” 94, passed away peacefully at Loretto/Cunningham on Thursday, January 30, 2014. Youngest son of William and Elizabeth “Libby” Steves, Bob was pre-deceased by his wife Katherine “Kate” on April 10, 2013 after 68 years of marriage, his sister, Virginia Horner, and brothers Reg, John, and Donald.Survived by his loving family Bob (Kathy) of Scarsdale; Mary of Florida; Helen of California; Jim (Debbie) of Syracuse; Eloise Smarrelli (John) of Tennessee; Margaret Guarino (Jim) of Rhode Island; Liz Forgays of Florida; Theresa Vaga (Walter) of Syracuse; Tom (Debra) of Skaneateles; John (Diane) of Liverpool, and Dan (Judy) of California, and lifetime family friend, Mary Sferre, sfc., 24 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.Bob served in the Army during World War II, participating in campaigns in Northern France, Sicily, and Normandy. He was awarded the Silver Star and the Purple Heart. Bob was a Syracuse native living in Mattydale and a parishioner of St. Margaret’s for over 60 years. He was their Trustee, the head usher for many years, and a member of the Holy Name Society. He was known in the parish and about town, along with his wife, as Santa and Mrs. Claus. Bob worked in the tire industry and retired as Store Manager for Kearney Goodyear after 26 years. He enjoyed and supported his family with faith and humor always inviting us to Live Well, Love Much, Laugh Often….and leave a message.The family of Bob and Kate Steves extend their deep gratitude and prayers to the people of Loretto. Calling Hours: Sunday 3 to 7 p.m. in St. Margaret’s Church Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. Funeral services: Monday 10 a.m. in St. Margaret’s Church.
