April 02, 2009 Edward Jankowski passed away peacefully April 02, 2009 at St. Joesph’s Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Ed grew up on the West side of Syracuse, attended Sacred Heart School and Vocational High. He was a parishioner and a member of the Holy Name Society at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. He resided in Lakeland for 54 years and while his 5 children were growing up he and his family were communicants of Our Lady of Peace Church in Lakeland. Ed served in the Army as a machinist with the 79th Engineer Battalion, 1951 to 1953 during the Korean War. He was employed as an electrician at Carrier Corporation until he retired in 1979. He was a Chief Steward and Treasurer of Local 527, Sheet Metal Worker’s Int’l Union. He was a part time Police Officer for the Minoa Police Department. And an Advisor of the Minoa Police Explorer Post. He was Assistant Boy Scout Leader of Troop 400 and the first Co-Ed Scout Troop 400 in Onondaga County. He was active and on the Board with the Polish Scholarship Fund. Member of the Solvay- Geddes Veterans, The V.F.W. Pendock Post. The American Legion, The CNY chapter of The Korean War Veterans. Honorary Board of Directors of the West End Republican Club and He was a Committeeman for the Town of Geddes Republicans. Ed’s hobbies were: gardening, growing and making gallons of Kosher Pickles (with a secret recipe, he wouldn’t divulge to this day. He made barrels of sauerkraut and donated gallons to many church’s for their events. He made wine from many fruits that he picked, pressed and bottled for family and friends. He was a wood working perfectionist and a Pack Rat, he wouldn’t throw anything away. Survivors are: His wife of over 55 years NOREEN. Two sons Ronald (Lynn) Jankowski, of Virginia: Mark (Jennifer) Jankowski of Lakeland: Three daughters Terasa Jankowski, and her fiancé William Mumm of Syracuse: Carolyn (Shawn) Mykel, of Sherrill: Maxine (Scott) Wood of Tennessee. Eight grandchildren Rachel and Phillip Jankowski of VA; Alexis Vasiliades, Timothy (Sheyla) Vasiliades of Syracuse; Brooke and Holli Ford and Shawn Mykel of Sherrill; Cole Jankowski of Lakeland. Great granddaughters Nayelly and Keily Vasiliades. His sister Irene Sachetti of North Syracuse; Brother and Sister-Law John and Helen Smith of Baldwinsville, Nathanna and Donald Remy of Florida. Several nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his many friends. Calling hours will be Monday 3 to 7 pm at Hollis Funeral Home Funeral Services will be held Tuesday at 8:30 am at Hollis Funeral Home and 9:30 am at the Basilica of Sacred Heart Church. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Lakeland. Family request instead of flowers to please donate to the: National Diabetes Fund - P.O.
