I just found out today about Mike's passing, I have a heavy heart today. My prayers to the family and Tina. Mike was a fantastic, talented, man. He acted in two of my feature films and I was working on another film starring Michael. We had a lot of laughs while filming and I am truly sorry I had no idea Mike passed away, I would been there to pay my respect. I know in my heart he knows that I cared about him a lot and I am going to miss one of my stars. God bless you Michael RIP.

I just learned the news late yesterday (Wed.) afternoon. I offer condolences to Mikes family. Mike was one of those rare persons that is impossible to not like. The man had an amazing gift of making people laugh, and the humorous things that Mike said or did are the kinds of things you remember for your entire life. There are so many funny moments that I will never forget. One for example is, that still to this day, even after nearly 30 years, every time I see a red moped on the streets the first thing that comes to mind is Mike doing his impression of Dennis Reilly..”woop, would you believe it”. That makes me laugh just thinking about it, every single time.
I will also always remember playing Mike in pool, dozens if not a hundred times… and of course, him always winning! And who could forget Pinball at Dick & Karen’s donut shop. Mike was always on fire at pinball. He could really play the machines and rack up the points. As I recall, it was nearly impossible to catch up to his high scores.
A super hard working guy, I remember when working for Ed’s construction company, we were short-handed on a project in East Syracuse installing sidewalks and curbing, and Mike came to help us get the job finished on time. He was a natural, a damn good concrete man, because there really wasn’t anything Mike couldn’t do.
I was very saddened to hear of Mike’s passing, my deepest condolences to Tina and the girls, and to the entire Panek family. The world has lost a good man, but he lives on in the lives of everyone who knew him.

Mike was an amazing person, a great friend, and unique one-of-a-kind. When I found out about Mike passing, I didn't believe it was true. Not Mikey. No way ! No how ! You see, I told him about my Oct 2018 cancer surgery in December. I have stage 4 RCC, Renal Cell Carcinoma, a nasty Kidney Cancer, and my left kidney was removed at Upstate last October. He said to me ... listen .... " you say you're feeling good now, you're still alive, you're GOOD TO GO." I needed to hear that at the time. He was one of only a few friends I've told, I've kept this under wraps for the most part. I figured he was going to be on this earth a long time after me. I didn't expect to hear this news about the ... gentle giant.
I met Bob Panek, Mike and brothers Ed, Tom, Peter, Phil and other Panek family members about 30 yrs ago. Not all of the Panek family, but enough of the family to know this is a very special family . They would all give the shirt off their back to you if you needed it. Over this 30 yrs span Mike helped me in numerous ways at various times, both at the shop and on site with car and other issues. A few years back I was stranded, unable to start my pile of Dodge Caravan at Dunkin Donuts in Fairmount. I called Mike for counsel. He told me to stay put and he'd be there to help me as soon as possible. When he showed up ... promptly I should add, he giggled some wires, pulled and pushed a thing or 2, and told me to start her up. Of course, the van started right up and I was able to get home. I plowed snow with brother Bob way back and when things broke down, and depending on his work schedule with the DPW, morning, noon or night, Mike always managed to save us so we could carry on with our plowing tasks. Mike would never steer you wrong, he knew just about everything about any vehicle ever made. I called Mike on just about every car purchase our family made in the past 30 yrs including mechanical issues, how or what to get fixed, what to watch out for. He knew it all. And if he didn't on some rare occasion, he'd figure it out, quick.
We always started out our conversations, whether by phone or in person ... I'd say "How ya doing Mikey?" And he'd say "Good and You? " Mike's knowledge of so many things amazed me, he was a rare jack of all trades, and a master of all of them too! Luckily, we shared the same political views, and often talked about issues facing our great country every time we met. A pure genius, in my mind, he was capable of being the memorable Mayor of Syracuse, a sitting Judge, or a famous Orthopedic Surgeon. Think about it. Nuts, bolts, screws, saws, drills, hammers, clamps, grinders, metal plates, attention to detail. Mike had an extreme photographic memory. Dr. Michael Panek. And now all of his patients, us, hundreds, perhaps thousands, are left with a void and the reality we may never meet or know in our lifetime another like Mike. So cherish the memories.
To all of the Panek family and friends of Mike, my sincere condolences. This is a tuff pill to swallow. I will miss you Mikey.

As an older adult and sibling, I felt 59 years of age was too young to depart this life.
There were many more acquaintances for you to meet-- There was more time needed to spend with friends & family-- There were more meals to share, no conversations brief-- More challenges to face, more places to be.
I learned to know you much too late-- For love works in mysterious ways-- You were 9 when I left home to seek my fate-- While you worked hard to earn your praises.

To All the Panek family, many times I would be driving around on a sunday with the car having some kind of problem. I thought maybe Mike would be working at garage because he worked every day of the week! Sure enough there s Mike working hard. I d say what s up.Mike and he d immediately say what's wrong. I'd tell him the problem and he d look at it and tell me to go get this part. About an hour later my car was fixed and Mike would charge me a minimal price!!! Very Fair!!!! Over the past 5 years Mike continuously would bail me out in jams with my second hand cars!!! Ill miss him for his car repair skills but even more so for his sense of humor and his intellect!! Not only a good guy but a very smart mechanic!!! If there was ever a glitch with the electronics Mike would show you the way to the schematics on line and show you what was wrong and how it needed to be fixed !!! He was brilliant!!! He will be sorely missed in my life!!! Good Bye Mike and thank you very much
for being my mechanic and most of all a good friend!!!!
