To Carole’s family - I am so very sorry for your loss. Carole and I were friends 70 years ago, when we both lived on Driscoll Avenue in Syracuse. Her brother, John, whom I remember as “Jackie”, perhaps remembers me as Marilyn DeGarmo. I remember her Dad taking us for rides in the company truck. Carole and I had such fun together, as children, with no cares. I remember when she moved to Geddes Street, and we were in our early teens, and a birthday party that she had. I seem to recall, Bob, that she met you at the NYS Fair. She and I communicated after you married, and she was an Army wife. I remember how very sad I felt for her when Melanie died. Carole endured more than her share of sadness in her life, and I am so sorry for that. As years passed, she and I lost touch with one another. I remember writing to her when you lived in Florida, but the years took their toll on our friendship. For some reason this evening, I thought of her and did a search, only to read her obituary. I’m so sorry she and I didn’t connect while she was still living. I was in Syracuse last year to visit family and she and I could have gotten together . . . the lesson learned here is - don’t put off things that are important. Old friends should stay in touch. God bless you, Bob. Losing one’s spouse is so very hard. My first husband died 27 years ago, so I’ve been there. My prayers are with you and your family. Carole was a great gal, and will be missed by so many.
