Obituary of Thomas "Tim" O'Brien

Thomas “Tim” O’Brien, 68, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 12th surrounded by the love and support of his family. Tim was born in Syracuse to the late Margaret Dixon and Thomas O’Brien. Tim was a lifelong resident of Syracuse, graduating from Henninger High School in 1966. Tim left Syracuse briefly due to his enlistment in the United States Army, where he was in the First Infantry Division, First Engineer Battalion and served in the Vietnam War. Tim’s selfless sense of service continued when he returned home, after he earned an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice, he began a 26 year career with the Syracuse City Fire Department. In his time on the fire department, Tim earned the S.F.O.A Valor Award. Tim spent 41 years with his wife Candace. Throughout his life, Tim made many lifelong friends due to his genuine heart and contagious sense of humor. Tim enjoyed skydiving, golf, music, cooking, and the company of his friends and family. Tim was predeceased by his parents, and his brother Harold Baker. He is survived by his loving wife, Candace, sisters Mary Baker and Jackie, brother William, sister-in-law Esmerelda Baker, sons Sean (Rachel), Timothy (Jamie), granddaughter Helena and many close friends. In following with Tim’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Assumption Church at 9am on Saturday, internment with military honors to follow at Veterans Memorial Cemetery Syracuse.
