Robert Allen Neil (Mr. Boxing) 83, born in Binghamton, NY, June 22, 1933. He died Dec 18, 2016 in the Syracuse VA Medical Center after a short illness. He died peacefully with his family around him.
Bob is survived by his wife of 59 yrs Jean (Fox), daughters: Ruth (Mike) Stover, Catherine Neil, Amy (Steve) Uplinger and 6 grandchildren.
His greatest loves in life were his family, kids, and boxing. He was a boxer in his youth and in recent decades he was the founder and coach of the Carmen Basilio Boxing club; where he mentored young people as they trained to be boxers. Bob was a member of the Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota, NY. He served his country in the Army during the Korean conflict; and was a member of the American Legion.
With an entrepreneurial spirit he successfully owned and operated: The Colony Inn, Windsor liquor store and Mahican Contracting, a tile and marble business all located in Windsor NY.
The family will receive friends on Friday Dec 30th from 11am-1pm at Christ Episcopal Church 14 Monument Street Deposit, NY with a service to follow. All are invited to a Celebration of Life Reception held at Chip’s Good Times and Spirits in Windsor, NY, from 4-7pm.
