Obituary of Jeanne Sullivan Resnick

Jeanne Sullivan Resnick, 97, died on September 25, 2016 in Scottsdale, AZ.
She was born in 1919 to Mark and Mary Brooker Sullivan in Canandaigua, NY. She married Ralph Resnick in 1943, and lived for many years in Peterboro and Morrisville, N.Y.
Jeanne was a 1940 graduate of Ithaca College, and received her Masters degree from Syracuse University in 1967. In the interim years, she raised seven children, resuming her professional life as a college English professor in 1967. She retired from the State University of NY at Morrisville’s English Department in 1983.
An avid sailor and swimmer, Jeanne could be found among her many friends, “ladies of the club,” lakeside at Cazenovia, NY’s Willow Bank Yacht Club on most summer days.
A long time snow bird, Jeanne made her move to Scottsdale, AZ permanent in 2010. In Scottsdale, she was an active participant in several poetry groups. In the words of her friend and fellow poet, Pauline Mounsey, “Jeanne was an excellent poet, writing about personal experiences and family stories, as well as topical subjects. She was an award-winning published poet. She reached out in a caring, teaching way and was an inspiration to others.”
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Ralph, her sisters, Ruth and Ann, her daughter, Mary Ellen and son, Mark. She is survived by her children, Maggie, Daniel (Terry Malicek), Ann (Kevin Mullins), Rick, and Joan (Rich Whitley) and her grandchildren, Jeremy Sanford (Sarah), Jessica Byrne (Eban) and Kayla Resnick (Ben Hesford) and Quinn Whitley, Jason Malicek (Kate) and her great-grandchildren, Josie and Liam Sanford, and Lillian and Mariel Byrne, Olivia, Justin and Cadence Malicek.
