March 13, 2013 Athena Minerva Burke Oram, 92, passed away peacefully on March 13th in Syracuse with her family by her side. Athena was born in Syracuse to Lovina Myrle Winchell Burke and Patrick Joseph Burke on June 5th, 1920. She graduated from Syracuse Central High School and attended Syracuse University. Athena is predeceased by Albert Earl Oram, her husband of 57 years who passed away in 1997. She most enjoyed spending time with her family, learning new things and summers were filled with camping trips to the Adirondacks. She served as President of the Solvay Guild; an officer of the local chapter of the Embroiders' Guild of America, the Miniature Society and the Salina School Mothers' Club; President of the Women's Club and co-president with her husband Albert of the Couples Club of Furman Methodist Church; and Secretary of the Hazard Branch Library Club. She was an accomplished seamstress and milliner, and taught numerous adult education classes. Athena is survived by three daughters, Athena (Kenneth) Stoneburg, Deborah Oram, and Cecelia Seaver, and a son Albert Oram. Also surviving Athena are grandchildren Kenneth Stoneburg, Athena Pickard, Stephen Walsh, Rose Antzak, Gustavo, Ana and Matthew Delgado and Dylan Seaver, fourteen great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Hospice of Central New York, and David Cowdery and Robert Palladino for their constant support and devotion. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Central New York. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
