June 11, 2012 James Jackson Laragh, 89, born in Yonkers, New York to James A. and Mary Jackson Laragh, was a resident of North Syracuse most of his life, passed away Monday, June 11th in the VAMC, Syracuse. Jim retired 1985 after being employed 36 years at Will & Baumer Candle Co. Jim served in The United States Army from 1940 to 1945, wounded during The Battle of The Bulge was awarded a BRONZE STAR , PURPLE HEART, American Defense Metal, American Campaign Medal w/ Three Battle Stars, Unit Citation Badge, Combat Infantry Badge , Expert Marksman Badge with Rifle And Carbine Bars, World War II Victory Medal, Occupation of Germany Medal,. Jim served in The 42nd Infantry Division “Rainbow Division”, his Division Campaign Credits were in The Rhineland 9/15/ 44 - 3/21/45; Ardennes-Alsace 12/16/44 -1/25/45; Central Europe 3/22/45-5/11/45 and participated in The Liberation of Dachau Concentration Camp, The 42nd was the first American Division to reach Munich and liberated some 32000 inmates of the infamous Dachau concentration camp. He served in the NY State Guard and was awarded The Conspicuous Service Cross by New York State . Jim was a member of The DAV Col. Damarcus Post 130 Jim was predeceased by his wife, Jean 2010 and son, James 1974. Jim is survived by his sister-in-law, Rose (Richard) Bain; niece, Rebecca (Anthony Zizzi) Bain, Roberta Bain and Judy (Len) Paduano.
