July 17, 2010 Irene C. Strozik, age 94, died July 17, 2010 in Dayton, Ohio. Irene was born in Dunkirk, New York on December 1st, 1915 to Thomas and Mary Czysz. Irene graduated from the EJ Meyer Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1939 as a Registered Nurse. Her career in nursing spanned 37 years and included service at EJ Meyer, Roswell Park Memorial Institute and Hutchings Institute. Irene was instrumental in starting the blood bank at EJ Meyer. She retired from service with the State of New York in 1976. Irene was an active member of the community and her church. Memberships included the Symphonia Choral Society, the Polish Legion of American Veterans, Sacred Heart Rosary Society, first membership chair person of the Sacred Heart Seniors, Lakeland Seniors publicity chair person, Polish Heritage Club, Syracuse Polish Community Home, and The Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary. Irene traveled extensively after her retirement and dearly enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her first husband Chester Adamczak, second husband John Strozik, and sisters Jean Bartz and Clara Cross preceded her in death. Irene is survived by her daughter, Margaret (James) Heitz; stepson, John A. Strozik; stepdaughter, Barbara Antonelli; sister, Lucille (Norman) Bartz; grandchildren, Darren Heitz, Tracy (Michael) Vance and Eric (Julie) Heitz, 3 great grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. Calling Hours: Friday, July 23rd, 4PM-7PM at Hollis Funeral Home. Funeral Services: Saturday 8 AM at Hollis Funeral Home and 9 AM in The Basilica of The Sacred Heart of Jesus where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held.
