January 13, 2008 John Joseph “Bernie†Hanley, 84 of Syracuse passed away Sunday, January 13th, 2008. He was born on May 13th, 1923 in Syracuse, New York to John and Hazel Clary Hanley. Bernie was a Sergeant in the United States Army with The 773rd Tank Destroyer Battalion; he landed on the Normandy Beaches on the first wave. Bernie also fought in the Ardennes, Central Europe, Northern France and Rhineland. Bernie was a retired Sheet Metal Worker with Local #58. A son, David Hanley and granddaughter, Hilda Hanley, several nieces and nephews, survive him. In addition 4 stepdaughters, several step grandchildren and great grandchildren. Calling Hours: Wednesday 4 to 6pm at Hollis Funeral Home. Funeral Services: Thursday 12 N at Hollis Funeral Home. Burial with Military Honors will be in Pine Plains Cemetery, North Manlius.
