Obituary of Emily C. Brostek

Emily C. Brostek died on Saturday February 06, 2010 at the Central Park Nursing Center in Syracuse, New York. During Emily’s final hours, her daughter Rosemary Dahlberg was at her side providing care and comfort. Emily was born in Johnson City, New York in 1921 and graduated from Johnson City High School in 1939. Her husband, John C. Brostek, her daughter; Rosalyn; her sisters; Genevieve and Helen and brother Chester predeceased Emily. Emily moved to Syracuse in the mid 1940’s and married John C. Brostek. Surviving children are Rosemary (Kim) Brostek Dahlberg of North Carolina, Gregory (Deborah) Brostek of California. Surviving brother is Edward Lobacz of Olney, IL. Grandchildren are: Jeffrey (Jamie) Dahlberg of Tennessee, Laura (Bryan) Thomas of North Carolina, Jessica Brostek and Gregory J.C. Brostek of California. Great grandchildren are: Emma Thomas, Jacob Dahlberg and Olivia Thomas. Emily was employed at Western Union, Mizpah Towers, Van Duyn Hospital and played piano at various restaurants and community centers in Syracuse and Florida. Emily attended church at Sacred Heart and also at St. Brigid’s on the Westside. Emily was a member of the Fraternity of St. Dominic. During the last years in Syracuse, many friends provided assistance to Emily with special recognition to Nancy Coleman, Tony DiNicola, Ed Flavin, Sandy Coughlin and Billy Jackson. Calling hours will be 1:00 – 4:00pm Sunday, February 14, at the Hollis Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 15, 8:30 am at Hollis Funeral Home and 9:30am in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Burial: Sacred Heart Cemetery, Geddes. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Dominican Laity, P.O. Box 83, North Syracuse, New York 13212.
