Obituary of Genevieve T. Stryminski
Please share a memory of Genevieve to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
December 16, 2009 On December 16, 2009, our mother was reunited with all of her loving family in heaven. Genevieve Theresa (Wojenski) Stryminski, formerly of Westvale, passed away at Van Duyn Home, after a long and fulfilling life. Genevieve was born in Syracuse on August 4, 1916, the first-born child of Anna and Saturnin Wojenski. They owned Steve’s Restaurant on Tipperary Hill, which was later operated by Genevieve’s two brothers Edward and Richard Wojenski, who predeceased her. Genevieve married Henry Stryminski in 1939. They made beautiful music together for 51 years, and she was his devoted caregiver before Henry’s death in 1990. Genevieve had three loving children. Her oldest son, Thaddeus Henry (Tadge) died in the Philippines in 2008. She is survived by her son Richard (Ceil) Stryminski of Milton, VT; and her daughter Rose Ann (Al) Socha of Tully, NY. Genevieve had three grandchildren: Thaddeus II (Debbie) Stryminski of DE, Jeannine Rehling of OK; and Jennifer Cobb of Albany, NY. She had 5 great-grandchildren: Jeromy, Haley, Brittany, Camron and Nikalause. Genevieve also leaves several nieces, nephews and “extended-family”. Over the years Genevieve was active in the Home Bureau and many Polish-heritage organizations. She worked for the Post Standard newspaper circulation department in the 60’s, and the Westhill School District as a cafeteria worker. Genevieve retired as a bookkeeper from Onondaga Music Company in 1981. She was a past President of the West Side Seniors. Gen enjoyed entertaining family and friends, sewing, bingo, reading and crossword puzzles. She had a very strong belief in God and was a member of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. For the last three years she lived at Sedgwick Heights and was voted their “Senior of the Year” in 2007. One of her greatest joys was playing the piano for the residents. Her children and grandchildren grew up being serenaded with Gen playing, “How Much Is That Doggy in the Window” and “Let Me Call You Sweetheart,” polkas and waltzes. The family wishes to extend its deepest appreciation to the staff and aides at Sedgwick Heights and Van Duyn who helped to improve Genevieve’s quality of life. She loved you all.
