Joe was the best baseball hitter of his era. Having played with and against him I can attest to that. When playing with Joe, he often times was called upon to carry the team on his back. Yet, he was ever supportive of his teammates and never allowed our "flaws" to deter his support. As an athlete I can pay no greater respect. But, more importantly his morality as a father, grandfather, friend and again as a teammate was second to none. The Polish Legion in heaven has just received one of the best. Rest in Peace my friend. Sincerely, Jake Mayer
