Obituary of Elsa Geremia Vellone
Please share a memory of Elsa to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
June 15, 2016 With heavy hearts we said goodbye to our beloved mother Elsa Geremia Vellone as she passed from our arms and into the arms of her Lord on June 15. Elsa was born on November 26th, 1936 in Cascano Di Carinola, Italy to Antonio and Margherita (Del Prete) Geremia. She emigrated in 1955 with her family where they settled in Syracuse. Prior to marriage she was employed by Learbury’s as a seamstress. On June 13th, 1959 she married Guido Vellone and enjoyed 57 years of marriage. To simply describe Elsa as a housewife barely begins to describe the devotion, hard work, creativity and skill that she offered to her family and friends. She filled our lives with her love, our table with her great cooking, and made Home an idealized notion come true. Elsa loved spending time at her camp on Rondaxe Lake in Old Forge. Elsa was a communicant of St. Peter’s Church for many years. Though we will miss her greatly, the many gifts she bestowed upon us will keep her in our hearts for all our lives. Elsa is survived by her husband Guido, her children Frank Vellone (Sheila), Christine Walsh (Michael), Daniel (Elisabeth Lorentzsen) including grandchildren Daniel, Elaine, and Anthony Vellone, Matthew and Cole Walsh, Elsa and Raffaella Vellone. Elsa is also survived by her brother Delio Geremia, and brother-in-law Vince Buzzelli as well as a large extended family. Elsa was predeceased by her sister Edda Buzzelli and her sister-in-law Dorothy Geremia. The family would also like to thank the caregivers that provided our mother with outstanding care over the years: Karen, Annette, Maria, Amy and Debbie including the wonderful care she received at Sunset Nursing Home in Boonville. A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Lucy’s Church, 432 Gifford St, Syracuse on Monday June 20 at 10 a.m. A calling hour will be held at the church at 9 a.m. Donations can be made to Friends of Dorothy Catholic Worker House, 212 Wayne Street, Syracuse, NY 13203.
