Audrey Mary (Green) Damon, 65, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 13th, 2016 in Syracuse, surrounded by her loving family. Audrey’s positive attitude towards everyone and everything she encountered was awe-inspiring. Her kind and optimistic spirit touched all who knew her. Born in Rochester, NY to the late Howard and Kathleen (Dawson) Green, she attended East High School, graduating in 1968. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from SUNY Oswego in 1972, where she met her husband and several lifelong friends. After graduating, she moved to Syracuse, her home for the remainder of her life. After devoting several years to working with adults with disabilities at the Syracuse Developmental Center, she went back to school and received her Master’s degree in School Counseling from Syracuse University in 1995. She spent the next chapter of her career as a Guidance Counselor in the Syracuse City School District before retiring in 2011. Her compassion for students and her ability to listen and understand people made her a beloved figure at school, from students and co-workers alike. In 2008, she was honored during the Celebration of Excellence for her work and advocacy for students. Audrey was a selfless, caring person who will forever be missed by her family and friends. She was blessed with a gift for listening and empathy which made her a sought after confidante for all who knew her. Her finest qualities include her inner strength, perseverance and positive outlook on life. An avid reader and movie-goer she also loved politics and lunch dates with friends. One of her favorite things to do was spend time with her family, especially her two grandchildren, Andrew and Eloise.
