Obituary of Edmund Walter Romocki
September 1, 2015 Edmund Walter Romocki passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on September 1, 2015. Born on December 22, 1923, Eddie was a life long resident of Syracuse, NY and a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. He attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from Blodgett Vocational High School. He was a decorated veteran of WWII in the US Navy. He was assigned to Ron 30 PT Boat 456 as a Gunners Mate, serving in the Atlantic Theatre and participated in many patrols along the English Channel. He spent Christmas Eve 1944 pulling survivors of the SS Leopoldville out of the "drink". He was honorably discharged in 1946. Upon returning to Syracuse he was reemployed at Monroe Abstract and Title Corporation. After much hard work and dedication, he was promoted to Vice-President and retired after 45 years of service. After a chance encounter on a bus, he met Bernice Kobusiak, whom he married on July 16, 1949. They recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. Devoted husband and father to 7 children: Cynthia (William) Zhe of Avon, NY, Matthew (Sandra Bowers) Romocki of Baldwinsville, NY, Timothy (Dr. LaHoma Smith) Romocki of Creedmoor, NC, Robert (Linda) Romocki of Seattle, WA, Peter Romocki of Atlanta, GA, Stephen (Julie Mersereau) Romocki of Rochester, NY, and Cathleen (Mark) Santus of Metuchen, NJ. Besides his wife and children, he is survived by 20 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and his sister, Virginia Grosso. He was a founding member of the Happy Hearts Club and enjoyed organizing gatherings of these dear friends from the West Side. Burial: Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Syracuse NY. Family requests that no flowers be sent.
