November 23, 2007 On Friday, November 23, 2007 Ivan K. Kirayonok passed away peacefully after a brief struggle with cancer. Devoted husband of the late Natalia (Grechenko) Kirayonok, who predeceased him by one year. Loving stepfather to Maria G. Casey and her late husband, Michael of Virginia; beloved grandfather of Michael W. Casey, Jr and Katherine A. Casey, both also of Virginia. Mr. Kirayonok also is survived by a son, Nikolai, of Novosibirsk, Russia and a daughter, Elena Woolsey, of Syracuse, NY. A native of Belarus, Mr. Kirayonok survived near-fatal wounds during WWII; he joined the Russian Liberation Army (aka Vlasov Movement) and was instrumental in recruiting men to join the RLA, the goal of which was to topple the Soviet regime. After a number of years in post-WWII Europe, Mr. Kirayonok immigrated to the United States and moved to Syracuse, where he worked for Carrier Corporation until his retirement. Mr. Kirayonok was a respected decades-long member of St. Mary's Russian Orthodox Church, where he served on the Parish Council for many years. Services will be held at St. Mary's Russian Orthodox Church on Tecumseh Rd., Jamesville, on Monday, 26 November at 6:00 PM and Tuesday, 27 November at 9:00 AM followed by burial at Holy Trinity Orthodox Monastery in Jordanville, NY.
