Obituary of Elizabeth Langdon
It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Elizabeth (Bette) Langdon, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. On Friday, January 3rd, Bette passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and joy that will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Born on September 18, 1927, in Syracuse, NY, Bette dedicated over 25 years to the Syracuse City School District’s Pre-K Program. Bette was a devoted member of The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, where her faith was a cornerstone of her life. Most Mondays, Bette could be found at St. Stephen’s praying the Novena. Bette’s life was a testament to warmth, generosity, and an infectious sense of humor that brought joy to everyone around her.
Known for her incredible sense of humor, she had a gift for making everyone around her smile, whether it was through a perfectly timed(sometimes inappropriate) joke, her infectious laugh, or her ability to find lightness even in life’s challenges. Her humor brought people together and created countless joyful memories that will be treasured forever.
Family was the cornerstone of Bette’s life, and the Langdon home was a gathering place for loved ones. From Friday night pizza on Fitch St to Christmas Eve in Eastwood, those evenings brought the family closer, creating memories that will live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to be part of them.
Bette was known not only for her love of family but also for her vibrant spirit and generous heart. She was a member of the Knights of Columbus Sacred Heart Council 6282 Ladies Auxiliary and served as President for 10 years. Bette volunteered in the kitchen at Sacred Heart Bingo and was active in Sacred Heart Mothers Club for many years while her 11 children attended Sacred Heart School. Every week Bette volunteered at the Sacred Heart food pantry ministering to those in need. She touched countless lives and left the world a better—and brighter—place than she found it.
Bette was predeceased by her loving husband of 64 years, Homer and her two daughters, Joanne Langdon and Regina Langdon Jeong.
