Obituary of Eli Marposon III
Eli Marposon III, 94, passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2024, in Westvale, NY.
Eli was born on July 14, 1930, to Eli Marposon, Jr., and Olivia (Hanton) Marposon in Gary, IN. He graduated from William A. Wirt High School in Gary and studied journalism at Indiana University. He proudly served in the United States Air Force Security Service as a Russian Linguist at posts in Tripoli, Libya; Landsberg am Lech and Bingen am Rhein, Germany; and Vienna, Austria, in the 1950s during the Cold War. At the outset of his military service, Eli attended the Air Force’s Russian language program at Syracuse University and later graduated from Syracuse University. Eli worked more than 40 years in the insurance industry supervising architects & engineers professional liability claims at Allstate and CNA Insurance, before founding Professional Liability Risk Management. Ltd., and became the only insurance broker in the United States certified by the Construction Specification Institute (CSI).
Eli married now-retired Registered Nurse Margaret (Daniszewski) Marposon on September 29, 1956, at Sacred Heart Basilica in Syracuse, NY. The couple lived in Westvale and later enjoyed wintering in Venice, FL. Eli was a devoted husband and steadfast father to his four sons: Gregory Marposon, New York, NY; Christopher (Karen) Marposon, Venice, FL; Daniel (Cristin) Marposon, Springfield, VA; and Martin (Angela) Marposon, Culver City, CA. Eli was especially proud that all four sons graduated from private universities in New York State. He was the loving grandfather of six grandchildren: Matthew (Heather) Marposon, Arcadia, CA; Ali Marposon, Arvada, CO; Luke, Lydia, and Silas Marposon, Springfield, VA; and Danae Anable, Culver City, CA.
He greatly valued his family and his home, and contributed widely to his community, colleagues and life-long friends, inviting them to call him whenever they needed anything. Eli played the piano, clarinet, and saxophone in jazz bands in his early days and enjoyed singing and dancing throughout his life. Eli is remembered as an affable, true Westvaler who led the Optimist Club, Geddes Little League, St. Charles Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts, and the Cherry Road and St. Charles basketball clinics. He served as the Democratic Chairman of the Town of Geddes; helped establish the town’s athletic fields at Fay Road and Grand Avenue; and was a member of the Solvay-Geddes Veterans.
Eli was a committed Catholic, volunteered at St. Charles Borromeo Church regularly, reflected on retreats, and led grace and evening prayers for his family. For most of his life, he found pleasure in keeping active: working out at the gym, swimming, practicing yoga on the beach, running track, and playing sports with his sons. He even sailed with friends to Tahiti and Turkey, climbed several Adirondacks High Peaks, and traveled with his wife Marge throughout the United States and Europe, visiting his sons in the Midwest, along the West Coast, in Texas, New York, London, Italy, and Transylvania, Romania, his parents’ birthplace.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jacques Marposon.
Relatives and friends are invited to Eli’s memorial funeral mass on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Charles Borromeo Church, 417 S Orchard Road, Syracuse, NY; calling hours will precede the mass starting at 9:00 a.m. Interment will occur on a later date at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 4069 Howlett Hill Rd, Syracuse, NY.
