Obituary of Francis Petrauskas

Francis (Frank) Petrauskas, 95, peacefully entered into eternal rest on September 15, 2024 in Liverpool, NY. 

 

He was born in Sykesville, PA to the late Frank & Mary Petrauskas.  Preceded in death by brothers Joseph, Vincent, Anthony, Walter, Paul, John, and sister Josephine Aruskevicius. Survived by sister Leona Moore. 

 

Also survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Irene (Lazor) and their 7 children, Theresa (Steve) Contons, Joan (John) Chace, Cecilia Shipley, Kathleen Petrauskas, Matthew (Jean) Petrauskas, Ann Chatterton, & Barbara (Hans) Brechbuhl & 11 grandchildren, Jessica & Jaclyn Chace, Nicholas, Sarah, & Colin Shipley (and their father, Simon),  Christina & Kathryn Petrauskas, Zoe & Zachary Chatterton (and their father, Paul), and Luca & Justin Brechbuhl. 

 

Frank was an  Air Force Veteran of the Korean War. He owned & ran a landscaping business for 50 years. He was the recipient of the highly coveted National Landscape Award in 1969, which was presented to him by First Lady Patricia Nixon in the White House.
 

Ever so proud of his Lithuanian Heritage,  he was a lifetime member of the Knights of Lithuania and a three term president of the organization.
Enthusiastic volunteers, Frank, along with his wife Irene, donated their time for decades to the Francis House, Meals on Wheels, and the Rescue Mission to name a few.

 

A funeral mass will take place on Saturday September 21, 2024 9:30 am at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, 927 Park Ave., Syracuse, N.Y. 13204. There will be no calling hours. 

 

Burial will immediately follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery & Mausoleum, 4100 East Genesee Street, Dewitt, NY 13214 with military honors. 

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Francis House, 108 Michaels Ave., Syracuse, NY 13208 or the Sacred Heart Basilica Preservation Fund, 927 Park Ave., Syracuse, NY 13204.

 

His family would like to thank the third floor staff at Elderwood-Liverpool for their excellent care.
