Obituary of Clara L. Dorn

Please share a memory of Clara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
January 12, 2015 Clara L (Rizzo) Dorn 84, of Vernon Center passed away Monday January 12th at the Oneida Extended Care where she resided for the past five years. Born March 25, 1930 she was raised in the Pittsburgh area by her parents Patsy & Madeline (Vescio) Rizzo with her seven brothers and two sisters. She later moved to Vernon Center NY. She was an active member of the Vernon Center United Methodist Church. Clara always had a great sense for fashion that she shared through her sewing for friends and family. Only Clara could turn shopping into a ‘sport’ that she happily passed on to her daughters and grand-daughters. Along with her husband Earl (Tom) Clara managed and operated multiple dairy farms in Oneida County of which one was recently renovated into the event center Hayloft at the Arch, and another is now one of the largest dairy farm operations in Oneida County. Surviving are her husband Earl (Tom) Dorn, her daughters Kathleen(Kaye) Rizzo of Harrisburg PA, Tina (Steve) Black of Cicero NY, sons Patrick (Valerie) Eckhard of Watertown NY, and David (Angie) Eckhard of Murphy NC; Eleven grandchildren; Jessica, Nicole, Joey, Heather, Alia, Casey, Katie, Cassandra, Sean, Jordan, Dillon and five great-grandchildren. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the 3rd floor staff of the Oneida Extended Care for the excellent quality of care that Clara received while a resident. Clara’s living and generous spirit continues to touch lives. It was her desire to provide a unique opportunity to make a lasting and valuable contribution to the education of health professionals through the SUNY Upstate Medical University’s Anatomical Gift Program. If desired, donations may be made in Clara’s name to the CNY Heart Association https://donatenow.heart.org/ A memorial service will be held for Clara at the Vernon Center Methodist Church on Saturday May 9th at 10:00. Please join the family for a celebration of Clara’s life immediately following the memorial service at the church.
