Obituary of Susan E Giampa
Susan Giampa 1949-2024
Susan (Sadlocha) Giampa, family matriarch, 75, of Solvay passed away on July 27th, after a short and unexpected illness.
Sue was born in Syracuse, New York to Felix Sadlocha and Virigina (Glaski) Sadlocha. She graduated from Henninger High School and lived in Syracuse for most of her life.
In 1977, Sue married the love of her life, James “Jimmy” Giampa. They enjoyed dancing and loved to laugh together. They had 2 children, Brian and Selena, and they raised their family in their home on Syracuse’s Northside.
Sue and Jimmy moved to Solvay in 2008, and she showed her deep devotion to her vows of “in sickness and in health” by shepherding him through the hospice process leading to his passing in 2021. In this act, she taught us all what real love looks like.
Sue was a doting grandmother to her two granddaughters, Lila and Frankie, who she “loved more than anything.” She was notoriously bad at saying “no” to the people she cared about, and she often bought too many gifts, made too much food and strived to make everyone feel taken care of.
Sue found a particular joy in acting as the family caregiver and was the one person we could all count on in a bind. She would never turn anyone away and was willing to sacrifice her own wellbeing if it meant she could ease someone else’s unhappiness or anxiety in any way.
In recent years, she loved to feed neighborhood cats, squirrels and birds and always had an immaculately kept backyard where she would sit on warm summer days, and enjoy the company of her family.
Sue is survived by her children Brian (Lisa) Giampa of Deerfield Beach, FL, and Selena Giampa, of Syracuse; her granddaughters Frankie Giampa and Lila Acosta; her siblings Nancy Sadlocha, Stephanie Beard, Phil Sadlocha, and Ann (JR) Capps; and many nieces, nephews and cousins, who will never forget the empathy, love and humor she brought to their lives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James and her brothers David and Raymond Sadlocha.
Calling hours are from 4 to 7 pm at Hollis Funeral Home 1105 West Genesee St Syracuse, and a small memorial will be held there on Friday morning at 11am. Susan’s ashes will be interred with her husband’s at Assumption Cemetary afterwards.
Contributions can be made to Hospice of Central New York 990 7th North Street Liverpool NY 13088 0r ONLINE www.hospicecny.org, in her memory.
