Obituary of Manya Szelewski

October 29, 2014 Mary (Manya Nodzo) Szelewski, 90, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, with her family by her side. She was born on Marcellus Street in Syracuse to Jacob and Tanka (Glowacki) Nodzo on June 11, 1924. She was a lifetime resident of the West Side/Skunk City. She retired from General Electric. Manya was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She always had a smile on her face and made you feel welcomed and loved. She is predeceased by her husband, Theodore, in 1991. Surviving are her two daughters, Cynthia Gridley of Syracuse and Diane (Steven) Hawley-Mueller of Skaneateles; a son, Peter (Kathy) of Syracuse; a sister, Helen Winnicki of Syracuse; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Friends are welcome to attend a funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 4th at the Sacred Heart Basilica on West Genesee Street in Syracuse, New York. Burial will be in St. John The Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery immediately following Mass. There will be no calling hours. Contributions may be made to the Finger Lakes ASPCA.
