September 10, 2014 Donald J. (Ducky) Dlugolenski, age 76 of Westvale passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, September 10, 2014. Born in Maspeth, NY to the late Joseph and Estelle Dlugolenski, Donald resided most of his life in Syracuse, NY graduating from St John the Evangelist High School. After High School Donald served in the US Army as an M.P. from 1955 – 1958. He retired from the Syracuse Police Department after 22 years of serving as a patrolman, tactical and bomb squad, security for dignitaries, and body guard for Mayor Lee Alexander. He was a member of Police Retirees/FOP. On August 5th 1961 he married Janet Deugaw of Norwood, NY. Together they had three loving, supportive children: one daughter Carol O’Mara (Mike) and two sons, Joseph and John. He was blessed with four grandchildren: Zachary, Sydney, Tyler and Bryan O’Mara whom he was very proud of and treasured. Donald is also survived by his sister, Genevieve Smith and several nieces, nephews and in-laws that will miss the fun-loving brother, uncle, friend who they looked forward to spending time with. Donald was predeceased by his brother Francis. Donald was a loving husband, father and grandfather who was adored by his family. His grandchildren were a priority in his life always participating in their sporting events and achievements, lending a listening ear and providing encouragement when needed. Donald shared many fun times at Wheeler’s Pub and the Camillus Elks Club with friends. Calling hours are from 2 to 5 pm on Sunday, September 14 at Hollis Funeral Home, 1105 W. Genesee Street. Funeral services are at 9:30 am at Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, 927 Park Avenue, Syracuse on Monday, September 15.
