Obituary of Richard John Holava

Richard John Holava age 83, born in Syracuse, N.Y. on July 13,1939 passed away on March 5,2023 at the VA Hospital after a short illness.

Richard resided at 103 Turnpike St., Liverpool, N.Y. for over 40 years.  He was a good neighbor and a loyal friend . 

His career for over 20 years was as Stationery Engineer at MONY Towers as well as the President of his Union.  He has been retired since 1992.

Richard was proud of his years in the Air Force (’56-62) as a Staff Sargent and was an active member at Post 787 in Cicero for the last 20 years.  He enjoyed the patriotism and military comradeship he found there.

Richard was an avid hunter and a bold competitor on the pistol and archery ranges for many years.

Richard was born in 1939 to Henry Michael Holava Sr. and Harriet Lubaniec.

He was predeceased by his son Richard Jr. in 1978 and his wife of 36 years, Nancy Cornell Holava in 2001.

Survivors include:  his loving wife of 20 years, Cheryl Thomas Weidemeyer Holava; his daughters:  Christina Bennett and her daughter Brittany and son Nicolas; Lorinda Brown and her daughter Olivia; his sister Patricia (Holava) Parkis ; his brother Henry Holava Jr. his wife Rosa : several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours: 4 to 6 PM Friday, March 10th, Hollis Funeral Home at 1105 West Genesee St. Syracuse

Funeral Services: 11 AM  Saturday, March 11th ,  Mass of Christian Burial Rites will be celebrated at St Joseph the Worker Church 1001 Tulip St. Liverpool NY 13088.
