Obituary of Dennis Francis Bergey

Dennis Francis Bergey, 73, passed away on Monday February 13th, 2023 at the Syracuse VA Hospital. 

Born in Phillipsburg, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Dennis Leo Bergey and Catherine Virginia  Heffler. He was one of 13 children who had a special relationship with each sibling and their families. He was a Niagara Falls Native but loved to travel and never stayed in one place for very long. He always considered home to be where his family was and that is where he spent his last years, making memories. 

He was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam Era and served as a tank mechanic. He was hand selected due to his impeccable mechanical skills to be the Private Driver for an Executive Officer during his time of service.

Dennis was well known for his wide range of skills. He was a jack of all trades; Master Mechanic, Contractor, Christian Literature Salesman, Chimney Sweep, he could do it all.  While in Syracuse, he was the Master Mechanic for the Corvette Barn and worked on nearly every single Corvette in Central New York. As an entrepreneur, he owned and operated multiple businesses and enjoyed helping people.

Dennis was a car lover extraordinaire, his favorite being a 57 Chevy Convertible. He was passionate about all things cars and passed that love on to his children. He loved all genres of music and believed music heals the soul. He was a free spirit who loved to travel the country, always creating an adventure everywhere he went. He was the “story teller” because he would share his memories of his life with everyone he encountered.  He was known to be very spiritual and loved educating people on religion. He loved nothing more than spending time with his family and friends. He was a simple man who loved nature.

Dennis is survived by his seven children, Karena, Christopher, Joleen, Dennis, Sara, Gregory and Angela. He is survived by Josie or as he would say,  “the mother of his children”. He loved all of his children and that he had been blessed with so many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by many brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is predeceased by his lifelong best friend and significant other, Deborah Bosso. 

He was loved by everyone he met and will be missed by all who knew him.

There will be a Military Burial with Honors at the  Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 4069 Howlett Hill Rd, Syracuse, NY 13215, at 1PM on Thursday March 2, 2023. A memorial dinner will follow at the Marcellus Fire Department, 4242 Slate Hill Rd, Marcellus, NY 13108. All are welcome to come share memories and laughter.

A celebration of life will be held in Niagara Falls at a later date and time.
