Edna Standridge

Obituary of Edna Ruth Standridge

Edna Ruth Standridge, 87, of Central Square, New York passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 14, 2023. She was the beloved mother of Diane (John) Reedy, grandmother of Benjamin Reedy and Samantha (Alejandro) Butler and great-grandmother of Lucy Butler.

Born in San Jon, New Mexico, Ruth was the daughter of Herbert and Evelyn Stanley. She graduated from San Jon High School and Eastern New Mexico University. She had a passion for early literacy education. She taught in Tucumcari, New Mexico and Charlottesville, Virginia before becoming an elementary school teacher at Lakeshore Road Elementary in the North Syracuse Central School District. She taught for 35 years, retiring in 1995.

Ruth was an avid birder with a long “life list” and an accomplished painter. She loved to return to New Mexico to visit family and go birdwatching. She often travelled to find bird species to add to her list. She valued her independence and was able to stay in her home almost until her passing.

Ruth loved nothing more than spending time with her family and sitting on her back porch drinking a cup of coffee. She was a loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. There was no one like her, and there never will be. She is greatly missed.

Besides her daughter, grandchildren and great-granddaughter, she is survived by a sister, Kaye (George) Miller of Las Cruces, New Mexico; a brother, Patrick (Margaret) Stanley; and several nieces and nephews and their children.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

Letters and cards of condolence may be sent to Diane Reedy, 5701 Boulia Dr., Clay, New York 13041.
