Obituary of Lynn M Rathbun

Please share a memory of Lynn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Lynn Marie Rathbun, 63, ended her three-year battle with pancreatic cancer on Sunday, August 28, 2022. She was the wife of Laurence Paul Rathbun. They shared 39 years of marriage together.

Those left to mourn her death and celebrate her life include husband, Laurence Rathbun; daughter, Katharine Capenos (Tyler); son, Laurence (Bud) Rathbun II (Kristin); grandson, Luca; her father, Lee N. Goyette; sister, Karen Konrad (John); brothers, David Goyette (Teresa) and Daniel Goyette (Deborah Dombrowski); four rescue cats, countless students, families, teachers, and staff in the Mexico School District, and friends new and old.

She is predeceased by her mother, Regina Quinn Goyette.

Born in Worcester, MA, she was the daughter of Lee and Regina Goyette. Lynn studied anthropology for her bachelor’s degree at SUNY Potsdam. She worked at JoAnn Fabrics for 15 years before deciding to go back to college in mid-life and got her master’s degree in education at SUNY Oswego. She taught 3rd grade at Mexico Academy Elementary for 17 years.

She enjoyed crafting, quilting, baking, attending music festivals and concerts, and hanging out with good friends and family under the tarp or on the patio enjoying the flower garden and the birds.

Lynn will be remembered for her caring nature and sense of humor, her enthusiasm for teaching and using new technology, and her willingness and drive to throw a great themed party.

Special thanks to those who supported Lynn and her family. The village is strong and full of love.

A celebration of life will be held privately.
