Obituary of Joyce M Carn
Joyce M. Carn, age 74 passed away peacefully on January 27, 2022. She was born on July 31, 1947 in Bamberg, South Carolina to Joseph and Wilhelmia Carn.
Joyce was a social butterfly who enjoyed playing bingo, attending service at Bethany Baptist Church, listening to Motown music, reminiscing with her sisters about the good ol’ days and spending time with her daughter. She had a love for life and was fiercely independent.
For many years Joyce worked at Centro, in Syracuse, NY. Joyce’s outgoing personality and strong work ethic afforded her long lasting relationships with many of her former co-workers. Her outlook on life was an inspiration to many. Although she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in the 1990s, she did not let the physical limitations that came with MS weigh her down. She would often say, “I just get up and try again.”
Joyce was a living example of a person committed to living a full and meaningful life. She will be remembered for her “tell it like it is” personality, her yummy banana and zucchini bread, her infectious laugh and her warm smile that would light up a room. She will be missed by many, but her memory lives on with all of the people that she touched during her time here on this Earth.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Lorraine Milhouse, Barbara Dickerson, and Gloria Carn; brother-in-law Mickey Milhouse; Joyce is survived by her beloved daughter Kaii Marie Robertson (Dwayne Robertson); her sisters whom she loved deeply: Annie Lee Gray, Georgia Page (Ron Page); brother in law Jessie Dickerson; former husband Roger W. Torrence, Jr; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
A Memorial service for Joyce Carn will be held at Oakwood - Morningside Chapel 1001 Comstock Avenue Syracuse New York 13210 on Saturday February 19, 2022 at 10:00am.
