April 17, 2014 Edna Juanita (Caruthers) Schwab, 84, of Union, NJ, passed away peacefully with family at her side on April 17, 2014. Born in Statesville, TN, on December 12, 1929, she grew up in Lebanon, TN, the daughter of Edgar E. Caruthers and Bonnie (Starks) Caruthers. She was the eldest of three children (Edgar, Jr, and Marshallyne) in a loving home. Mrs. Schwab was a graduate of Tennessee State University and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, as well as Atlanta University, where she earned a Masters of Library Science. She shared her love of books and learning with thousands of children throughout her career as a educator and librarian in cities including Chicago, Los Angeles, Washington, DC, and Newark, NJ. In Newark, she attained the position of Professional Librarian for the school district, overseeing resources for libraries across the district. In addition to her love of reading, Mrs. Schwab was an avid jazz enthusiast and supporter of children’s causes, education and the arts. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Deborah Schwab, of Syracuse, NY, as well as three grandchildren, Kristin Noriega; Brian Schwab; and Sydney Schwab. She is also survived by a large extended family including eight nieces and nephews, ten grand-nieces and –nephews, and six great grand-nieces and -nephews. So proud of her family, a hallmark of her life was her generosity to her family with her faith in God, wisdom, and a never-ending spirit of giving. Funeral arrangements will be private.
