David Storandt, age 74, passed away comfortably on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse following a brief illness. Born and raised in Rochester, NY, he moved to Clayton with his family in 1987. He honorably served in the US Navy aboard the destroyer USS Hawkins in the Atlantic Fleet. Dave was a graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology holding degrees in Electrical Engineering and Business Administration. Following several years in the engineering field in Rochester, he joined the Rochester Police Department and later the Rochester Housing Authority, initiating and successfully expanding the Section 8 Housing program to 3,000 homes in the Greater Rochester Area. He continued his municipal contributions in Jefferson County as the Director for the Jefferson County Office for the Aging and Administrator of the Jefferson County Home for the Aged.Dave was predeceased by his parents, Elmer George Storandt and Mae Catherine Bossert Storandt. He married Ann Kenyon in Clayton in 1976. Their children are David Storandt, Jr. and Barbara Storandt. David Jr and his wife Melissa Hunter Storandt live in Burlington, VT with their children Kenyon and Sebastien. Barbara and her husband Eric Young live in Plattsburgh with their children Max and Maeve. Recently Dave served as a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals for the Town of Clayton, and was Treasurer for the Riverwood Estates Homeowners Assn. He served as the Treasurer for the Thousand Island Emergency Rescue Services (TIERS), For 30 years he was a Mensa International member and was a member of Order of the Alhambra in Rochester. There will be no funeral services. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Contributions in Dave’s memory may be made to TIERS, PO Box 524, Clayton, NY 13624.
