Obituary of Richard Baxter

Please share a memory of Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Richard “Dick” Baxter, 74 of Mattydale, NY  passed away peacefully at home on February 26, 2021.  Born July 21, 1946 in Syracuse to the late Francis and Mary Baxter.  He worked as a commercial roofer for many years and was a proud member of the Roofers Local #195. In Dick’s younger years, he enjoyed participating in local dart leagues and was a skilled handball player.  Anyone who knew him, knew that on the handball court as in life, he was a force to be reckoned with.

One of things he enjoyed most was taking long rides throughout New York State with his long-time companion Bridget.  Their adventures could find them in the Adirondacks shopping around the Old Forge Hardware Store, visiting Boscov’s in Binghamton or in Oswego enjoying some Rudy’s seafood by the lake.  Dick was a man of Catholic faith and a very proud father to his daughter Melanie, who he loved with all his heart.

Dick is survived by his long-time companion of 44 years Bridget Bargelski of Mattydale, daughter Melanie (Doug) Bauder of Manlius, step-daughter Danielle DiSerio of Liverpool and three step-grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his parents, Francis and Mary Baxter, and brother Frank Baxter.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later time when we can gather in person.
