We all miss Aunt Harriett tremendously! She had such a smile… such a laugh. She enjoyed life and knew how to make people smile. She also knew how to make people feel uncomfortable.
The first time she met my husband (before when we were dating of course) she showed him her chest and asked him how much do you think one of these things weigh? He looked at her… looked at me, my dad, then back to her, blushed and said… I don’t know. The poor guy. I felt bad for him. She laughed. Aunt Harriett was well… big chested… she told him… they weigh 25lbs! He smiled, dad laughed, I blushed & turned my head. He didn’t know what to think.
My husband and I went to Ogdensburg the day before the 4th of July. Her stone was engraved with all the dates and that, flowers were planted in front of it and the grass was grown over. It was obvious what happened… family wasn’t notified of ANY services for our Aunt Harriett who was a matriarch and family gatherer of our family! I was so upset as was my husband and my cousin. In her memory and with love… we planted a rose bush to the left of her stone which is engraved Harriett B Hess Williams.
