February 7, 2014 Libby M. Kocyla , age 97, of North Syracuse, NY, passed away February 7, 2014 in Florida. Born in Utica, NY in 1916, she was the daughter of the late August and Anna Hubalek. In 1937, upon her marriage to the late John T. Kocyla, she moved to Syracuse, NY. John passed away in 1979. For many years she, along with her smile, worked as a waitress at many local restaurants in her old Westside neighborhood. She volunteered for many years at Stella Maris Retreat Center in Skaneateles, NY as one of “the apple ladies”. She was a member of the Altar Rosary Society at St. Stephen’s and Villa Maria Society at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, both located in Syracuse, NY. Left to cherish her memory are daughter and son-in-law Diana and Dennis Buckley; granddaughters, Colleen Buckley, Cindy (Tim) Koren; 3 great-grandchildren, Jonathan Doolittle, Olivia and Adam Koren. She leaves behind a sister Betty Frank of Mohawk, NY, brother Anthony Hubalek of Rome. NY; many nieces and nephews, and Mary Ellen Coon (a niece) who helped with her care. She was predeceased by sister Anna Bolen in 1983 and brother August Hubalek, Jr. in 1996. Calling hours are Tuesday, February 18, 2014, Hollis Funeral Home, 1105 W. Genesee St., Syracuse, NY, 4pm to 7pm. Funeral services: 10am Wednesday, February 19, 2014, Hollis Funeral Home and 11 am Transfiguration Church , Syracuse, NY. Burial: St. Mary’s Cemetery, Dewitt, NY. Contributions can be made to either Stella Maris Retreat and Renewal Center 130 E Genesee St, Skaneateles, NY 13152 or to a charity of your choice.
