Please share a memory of Alfreda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
January 6, 2014 Alfreda Antonina Deskiewicz (née Jantos,) 87, passed away early Monday morning, the 6th of January, 2014. The center of a family is often bound by a particularly strong gravity, none which could be felt stronger than her loving matriarchal bond. As a daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother, she leaves behind her legacy of a tremendous and compassionate spirit, many traditions and experiences that could fill multiple lifetimes. Alfreda departed this world how she enjoyed living in it, surrounded by her family. Alfreda was born in Kuśmierki, Poland. She arrived in the United States in 1975 to reunite with her husband, two sons and daughter. Her family spans two continents in and across the United States and Poland. Her profound and unconditional love for her family could be seen in everything she did and spoke about, from her ability to listen, advise and guide through any of life’s ups and downs to her making sure stomachs were full ten times over with her cooking deftness and overly generous serving sizes. Alfreda’s keen wit and sense of humor always sparked smiles and rambunctious laughter all the while imparting a wisdom and sensibility about the world around that was distinctly profound and insightful. Always a strong and vibrant spirit her entire life, Alfreda survived through many ordeals and atrocities surrounding her and her family during WWII, the iron curtain of Communism and, more recently, beat cancer. Alfreda’s many passions included dancing, singing, gardening, cooking and recounting a plethora of stories or life lessons amidst the comfort of her home, of which the door was always open to both person and nature alike. She was predeceased by her husband Chester Deskiewicz. Her life and memories will continue to be celebrated by her sister Janina Jantos; children, Ryszard and Miroslawa (Deskiewicz) Mazepa, Matthew Deskiewicz, Walter Deskiewicz (Mary) and Mark and Barbara (Deskiewicz) Walker; her 10 grandchildren, Ania, Dana, Ola, Matthew, Michael, Jessica, Jason, Christie, Patrick and Emily; along with 6 great-grandchildren, Magda, Robert, Ola, Emma, Evangeline and Lilia. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, January 11th, 2014 at 9:30 AM at the Basilica Sacred Heart of Jesus, 927 Park Ave in Syracuse, NY. Burial: Sacred Heart Cemetery, Geddes In lieu of flowers please send donations to Francis House, 108 Michaels Ave, Syracuse, NY 13208 or a Charity of your choice. Kochamy Cię, Babcia!
