Obituary of Stella N Smorol

Stella N (Dziedzic) Smorol, 96, of Syracuse died Tuesday morning at Francis House. One of nine children born to Casimir and Aniela (Nellie) Dziedzic she grew up on the west end of Syracuse. She graduated from Vocational High School and went to work at Carrier Corporation. She left there to raise her three sons and later retired from Syracuse University. Stella was married to John Smorol for 68 years until his death in 2016. She and John traveled throughout the country for the boys baseball games and for many of John's bowling tournaments. Stella enjoyed bowling on her women's league and mixed league with her husband John. During her retirement they spent many days at their camp on Lake Ontario with the grandchildren. Stella was a faith filled woman and proud of her Polish heritage. She loved to celebrate the Polish traditions of Easter brunch and Christmas Eve Wigilia with family and many friends. Stella was predeceased by her husband John, son William (Bill) and her eight siblings. She is survived by her sons Leonard (Barbara) and John (Donna) Smorol and daughter in- law Constance (Connie) Smorol, seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren with a tenth (a great grandson) arriving in October. A special thanks to Hospice of CNY nurses Patty and Julie and especially to her companion, Patti Carbone for such devoted care. Stella was dedicated to family and her parting words were always to love one another and take care of each other. Sto Lat. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday 10:30AM at The Basilica of Sacred Heart. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Geddes.
