January 6, 2014 John J. Leonard 97, passed away Monday at the VA Medical Center. John was an active resident of Green Point Senior Living, volunteering at Bingo, Black Jack and Horse Racing. He was a great wood worker and loved making wooden children’s toys which he donated to Ginger Bread Pre-School and Day Care. SSGT John J. Leonard was an Army Veteran of WWII serving from 1942 – 1946 with the 44th Infantry Division, he served in the South Pacific from 1943-1945. John was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth (Betty) Leonard 2010 and he is survived by his sisters, Margaret Pasco and Faye (John) Parker; several nieces and nephews. Calling Hours: Wednesday 4 to 6 PM with services following at Hollis Funeral Home 1105 W. Genesee Street Syracuse. Private Burial with Military Honors will be held in The Veterans Memorial Cemetery Syracuse. John’s niece, Rose Fowler and the entire family would like to thank the medical staff of the VA Medical Center Floors 5,6 and 8 for their wonderful care given to John.
