Obituary of Helen I. Pickard
Helen (Kotlarz)Pickard of North Syracuse passed away peacefully on July 1, 2018 at Elderwood at Liverpool. Helen was born and raised in Syracuse. After graduating from high school Helen went to work as a leather cutter for the Pickard Handbag Company where she met her husband of 67 years, David F. Pickard. She also worked as a nursery school teacher and later had a career as a beautician for Chappells at Northern Lights. After Chappells closed she continued to do hair for the family for many years. Helen and Dave enjoyed traveling together throughout the United States and Canada. They especially enjoyed their 50th Wedding Anniversary trip to London (and Liverpool where Dave was stationed for part of WWII). They also enjoyed entertaining family at all the major holidays where Helen was always a fantastic hostess. Over the years she enjoyed doing ceramics, painting, and flower arranging. Helen also enjoyed picking up her sister Estelle and driving to sites all over central New York until she was in her mid 80’s. Helen was cherished by her family and adored by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Helen was predeceased by her husband David, her parents Anthony and Helen Kotlarz, her granddaughter Jennifer Szczechowiak, one brother Anthony and five sisters: Estelle, Jean, Mary, Lottie, and Annie. She is survived by her son David G.(Susan) Pickard, daughter Karen (Jerry) Szczechowiak, her sister, Loretta Stark, Grand daughters Carri (Andy) Mascari and Amy (Steven) Wellner Pickard, Grandson,David A. Pickard, Great grandchildren Logan Mascari, Braydan Mascari, Juliette Wellner Pickard, and Katherine Wellner Pickard and many nieces and nephews and cousins both here and in Poland.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Organ Restoration Fund 927 Park Avenue Syracuse NY 13204. The family would like to thank the 3rd floor staff at Elderwood for their care, kindness and friendship.

Funeral Services: Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 9:30AM Friday Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
