Marie Smigelski, 62, of Lakeland, NY passed away peacefully, Saturday September 16, 2017.

The youngest child of Edward and Mary (Baluta) Smigelski, Marie grew up in Solvay and graduated from Solvay High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from SUNY Cortland and a master’s degree in Special Education from SUNY Geneseo.  She enjoyed a long career as a special education teacher and most recently worked for the Rescue Mission.

Always giving, always helpful, always ready to come to the rescue is how Marie will be remembered by family and friends. Her incredible sense of humor will be forever missed, but not forgotten.

Marie was predeceased by her parents. She is survived by sisters Jane Smigelski of Solvay, Joanne (Dan) Hill of Chittenango, brother John Smigelski of Camillus, and nephews Steven Hill, Lucas (Heather) Hill and niece Emily (Nick) Ryan, along with 4 grandnephews and 2 grandnieces.

Calling hours will be Sunday 1-4 PM at Hollis Funeral Home 1105 West Genesee Street, Syracuse, NY. A funeral mass will be held Monday 9;30 AM at St. Cecilia’s Church 1001 Woods Rd, Solvay, NY 13209. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery 6650 Beach Rd, Lakeland, NY 13209.
