Obituary of George Begay

George John Begay passed away at the age of 89 on Wednesday February 7th, 2024, after a brief illness.  He was the widower of Arlene, his wife and partner of 26 years.

 

Born and raised in Syracuse to John and Mary Begay, George proudly left to serve in the United States Marine Corp, then he attended Mohawk Valley Technical College.

After his service and education, he settled down and built a life in Syracuse. This began with a job at General Electric where he met his future wife, Arlene.

Later he eventually retired as a draftsman of over 20 years at Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation.

 

George leaves behind four children – Susan, Stephen (Lauren), Patricia Colleary (Michael) and Thomas. He also leaves behind three grandchildren – Hannah, Sean and Patrick. 

He is predeceased by his parents (John & Mary) and his siblings – John, Michael and Helen. 

 

Calling hours are Thursday, February 15th, from 4-7pm at Hollis Funeral Home in Syracuse. Services will be at St. Patrick’s Church Friday, February 16th ,at 10am. 

 

Graveside services will be for family only.

 

In lieu of flowers, George and his family would appreciate if donations were made to Toys for Tots.
