Kevin Claude Smallman Obituary

Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, Friend

With heavy hearts, we announce that Kevin C. Smallman, age 72, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family on May 19, 2026.

Born on October 14,1953, to Paul and Della O’Dougherty Smallman, Kevin lived a life centered around family, friendship, hard work and enjoying the simple pleasures.  Though being confined to a wheelchair following a tragic car accident at age 28, Kevin was full of energy and momentum, never short on life, humor, or spirit.

Kevin continued to build a life defined by perseverance, strength, and purpose.  He raised two sons with the love of his former wife, Debbie Crisafulli Smallman, and made sure life was full of experiences and adventure for them.

Family vacations to Hilton Head, SC became lasting memories, and he enjoyed watching his sons race BMX bikes and play sports…passions to share with them, not just his time, but his spirit for doing and living.

Generous and giving to a fault, Kevin always found a way to put others first, whether family, friends, or caregivers.  Even when he had little to give, he still made sure those around him had what they needed.

Kevin leaves behind his loving family, including his two sons, Paul Smallman (Michelle Calogero) of Phoenix, NY and Nicholas Smallman (Maggie Vono) of Fulton, NY; four grandsons, Jacob, Logan, Liam, and Nathan Smallman, two granddaughters, Stella and Macie Smallman; two sisters, Bonnie Duplessis (C. Ronald Duplessis) of Covington, LA, and Laurie LaPage (Richard LaPage) of Fort Covington, NY; Amie Thesier, mother of his grandsons, of Central Square; many cousins, nieces, and nephews, a loving caregiver and dear friend, Guyyuh Dooley, and his longtime visiting nurse and friend, Stephanie Rawls.

He was predeceased by his parents and his older brother, Gary W. Smallman, and his faithful dog, Little Girl.

Kevin and his siblings were raised in small town USA, where life was simple and good, where neighbors were friends and friends were like family, where his values and morals of honesty, hard work, and meaningful friendships were formed and by which he lived his life. He enjoyed life’s everyday pleasures and the company of those around him.  He was an avid fan of and enjoyed watching the New York Yankees, the Buffalo Bills, SU basketball, NASCAR racing, and Barrett-Jackson automobile auctions, often with a cold Michelob Ultra in hand!

Kevin’s carefree life, as he knew it, ended on the night of his tragic car accident, and though life was difficult at times, and his situation made it hard to do the things he wanted to do, he carried on with a smile, his wonderful sense of humor and wit, and a story to tell. He rarely shared his private struggles. Still, his love never wavered…it was steady, constant, and always there, carried quietly but held firmly inside everything he did.

Though he will be greatly missed, the memories he created and the lives he touched will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. As he would often say instead of goodbye, “I’ll see you when I see you, next time I see you”!

A celebration of life will be held at a future date at the discretion of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the SPCA, two charities that were especially close to his heart.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered support, prayers, and kindness during this difficult time
