John Phillip Hollis Obituary

John Philip Hollis, born January 8, 1947, in Flushing, New York, to Alfred Walter Hollis and Vivian M. Marochini, passed away peacefully in Orlando, Florida, on May 15, 2026.

John is survived by his loving husband, Patrick Lindsay, whom he married on April 23, 2016; his brothers, Charles Hollis, Stephen Hollis, and Alfred Hollis; as well as many beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

In 1982, John moved to Florida with his mother, Vivian, and devotedly cared for her until her passing. His deep sense of loyalty, compassion, and family devotion remained a defining part of who he was throughout his life.

John devoted more than 30 years of service to Orlando Health, where he worked as an instructional designer. He was deeply passionate about his work and highly respected by his colleagues, who admired both his dedication and his kind spirit. Even as retirement approached, John often joked, “I’m going down with the ship,” a testament to his unwavering commitment and love for what he did.

Patrick met John on August 12, 2001, and from that day forward, they never stopped talking. Not a single day passed without hearing each other’s voice, even when work or travel kept them apart. John was not only Patrick’s husband and partner, but also his best friend and the love of his life. Together they shared 25 beautiful years filled with love, friendship, joy, and endless laughter.

Patrick will forever miss dancing with him, singing beside him, laughing with him, hugging him, kissing him, and simply sharing life together. Their life was a beautiful tapestry woven with devotion, companionship, and cherished memories.

John was a kind, gentle, handsome, and generous soul who brought warmth wherever he went. He embraced Patrick’s Jamaican culture wholeheartedly and became loved by both family and friends. He had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome and cared for. Whether hosting dinner parties or gathering with friends, John always believed in going the extra mile and giving generously of himself. He truly would have given the shirt off his back to anyone in need.

The holidays will never be the same without him. John had an incredible sense of humor and kept everyone laughing with his jokes and playful spirit. He loved life, enjoyed treating himself and others, and had a special fondness for scratch-off lottery tickets — a small tradition Patrick will continue in his memory.

Music was one of John’s greatest passions. He loved playing his Steinway piano, and many times Patrick had the joy of accompanying him while he played. Those moments, along with the videos they captured together, are treasures that will be held close forever. Some of his favorite songs included “Yesterday” by The Beatles, “My Way” by Frank Sinatra, “You’ve Got a Friend,” and “My Funny Valentine,” which he especially loved when accompanied by Patrick’s sister, Celeen, on vocals. John would often mention her every time he played it.

John, also adored the couple’s three dogs — Marley, Peaches, and Penny — and often jokingly referred to them as “Peaches, Penny, and Patrick” alongside “Marley and John.”

A devoted member of the Central Florida community, John volunteered with numerous nonprofit organizations and community events. He supported Patrick in every endeavor just as wholeheartedly as Patrick supported him. They truly were two peas in a pod.

During his final days, John fought valiantly in the hospital with incredible strength and courage. He will be forever loved and deeply missed by all who knew him.

John’s memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
