Jeanette Sweet Obituary
Jeanette Ann Sweet passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, after a courageous journey with Stage
4 cancer. True to who she was, she faced this chapter with grace, strength, and an unwavering
spirit—reminding all of us to “live with your end in mind.”
Jeanette was a trailblazer long before it was common. In a time when corporate sales was largely a
man’s world, she carved her own path with confidence, intelligence, and heart. A true entrepreneur, she
built and led multiple successful businesses and later dedicated her talents to Human Resources, where
she served and mentored over 400 clients—helping them grow, evolve, and reach their fullest potential.
She was a powerhouse in every sense of the word, but what made her truly exceptional was the way she
brought joy, wisdom, and authenticity into every room she entered.
She had a gift for connection. Whether through business, friendship, or family, Jeanette made people
feel seen, valued, and inspired. She believed deeply in continuous learning, living without regret, and
showing up fully in life—with laughter, honesty, and love. She adored her pets and treasured her family
above all else.
Jeanette is survived by her loving siblings: Ernie Sweet; Timothy (Cheryl) Sweet; Gary (Tammy) Sweet;
Jeff (Tina) Sweet; Sherry Sweet; and Jonathan (Jennifer) Layaw; as well as her stepchildren, Jonathan
Sullivan and Lisa Palladino. She is also survived by Donna Pelletier, a close member of the family, and her
cherished nieces and nephews: Barbara Sorrell, Jennifer Chapin, Diana Sweet, Brandy Hartman, Joey
Sweet, Caitlin Layaw, Joella Sweet, Eric Sweet, Garrett Sweet, Chad Scovil, Jay Scovil, Stacey Graves,
Melanie Mills, Jud Mills Jr., Nickolus Sweet, and Kaylon Sweet, along with all of her great-nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Sweet, Francis(Shatraw) Sweet-Layaw, and Paul
“Pops” Layaw; her sisters, Judy (Jud) Mills and Susette (Floyd) Scovil; her niece, Michelle Mills; and her
sister-in-law, Joan Sweet.
Even in her final days, Jeanette’s perspective on life remained extraordinary. In her own words:
“My spirit is anything but heavy. I feel held—surrounded by love, touched by angels, and at peace. I
have truly tried to live a life with no regrets, and I think I did a pretty good job. The greatest reward is
waking up each day feeling loved.”
Her message to all of us is simple yet powerful:
Enjoy every moment. Enjoy you.
Jeanette leaves behind a legacy of strength, laughter, mentorship, and deep love. She will be profoundly
missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Family request, donations may be made in Jeanette’s name to Francis House, 108 Michaels Avenue,
Syracuse, NY 13208.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
