Alma Jean Ray Obituary

Mrs. Alma “Jean” Ray, 83, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 23, 2026, at her home. She was the wife of the late Norman Ray Sr. Jean was born July 1, 1942, in Altavista, Virginia, the daughter of the late Wilbert Melvin and Nannie (Fisher) Brown. She was educated in the Waterbury public school system in Waterbury, Connecticut. She resided in Waterbury until she met the love of her life, Norman and were united in holy matrimony on June 29, 1965, in Syracuse, NY where they established their family, sons Norman “Roc” Ray Jr. and the late Jason Donnelle Ray, who passed away in infancy. Jean worked for B.G. Sulzle, Inc. for many years before retiring.


Jean devoted her life to her family, friends, and faith. Jean adored her “Rocky” and doted over her granddaughter’s Roc’elle Ray and Rhyan Ray. She loved her friends and making mischief with them. She also gave her love to God. She was a devote participant of the Belle Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She will be missed.


Jean leaves to cherish her memory her devoted son and best friend, Norman (Joanne) Ray Jr., granddaughter’s Roc’elle Ray, Rhyan Ray and Jazmyn Langdon. Her brother Oscar “Bobby” (Patty) Brown of Jamesville, NY and a host of nieces, nephews and many good friends. She was proceeded by two brothers, Alvin Brown and Wilbert Melvin Brown Jr. and a sister Grace Juanita “Nita” (Brown) Roundtree.


Calling Hour: Thursday May 7th 11 AM to 12 PM  Belle Grove Missionary Baptist Church


Jean’s going home will take Place on Thursday, May 7, 2026 at 12 PM at Belle Grove Missionary Baptist Church at 219 Doctor M.L.K W, Syracuse, NY 13205.


Burial following at Oakwood Cemetery 940 Comstock Ave., Syracuse, NY 13210.
