Debra Jane Ginnelly, known lovingly as Debbie, passed away on March 16, 2026, at her home in Syracuse, NY, after a courageous battle with a long-term illness. She was 70 years old.

Born on November 27, 1955, in Cooperstown, Debbie was the daughter of the late Donald and Joyce Short. She grew up surrounded by family and carried that deep sense of connection with her throughout her entire life.

Debbie married the love of her life, Timothy Ginnelly, and together they shared an extraordinary 50 years of marriage. Theirs was a partnership built on devotion, patience, and unwavering love, a true testament to what it means to stand by someone through every season of life.

For over 40 years, Debbie dedicated herself to her work at St. Joseph Hospital, where her warmth and compassion touched countless lives. She was one of the sweetest people you could ever hope to meet, always kind and willing to help anyone who crossed her path. Whether it was a colleague, a neighbor, or a stranger, Debbie had a way of making people feel seen and cared for.

Outside of work, Debbie had a soft spot for her beloved pet rabbits, whom she loved as if they were her own children. Her gentle nature extended to every living thing around her, and those lucky enough to know her understood that her kindness was never an act. It was simply who she was.

Debbie is survived by her devoted husband, Timothy Ginnelly; her sister, Cynthia Weller and her husband Robert; and her brother, Michael Short and his wife Teresa. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Linda Snyder. As well as many Nieces and Nephews.

May Debbie find the peace and rest she so deeply deserves, held gently in God's grace.

In keeping with Debbie's wishes, services will be private. There will be no calling hours or funeral.

Debra will be greatly missed by all her family members. The world was a kinder, softer place because she was in it, and her warmth will be carried in the hearts of everyone who loved her for years to come.
